Description

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”justi”]

Wu Long – Black Dragon is a Chinese oolong tea from Fujian Province with a distinctly roasted character. Partial oxidation combined with roasting gives the tea its warm, full-bodied character, setting it apart from lighter, more floral styles of oolong.

The dry tea consists of irregularly sized, lengthwise-twisted leaves ranging in colour from brownish green to deep dark brown. Once infused, it produces a clear, pale golden-yellow liquor. Over successive infusions, the leaves gradually unfold, revealing their dark brownish-green tones.

Roasted and toasted notes take centre stage, accompanied by delicate hints of caramel, cocoa and subtle woody tones. Full-bodied yet balanced, this oolong gradually reveals different layers of flavour over multiple infusions.

History

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”justi”]

The name Wu Long means “Black Dragon” and comes from the same Chinese term that became widely known around the world as oolong. Several stories and legends attempt to explain the origin of the name, so no single account should be regarded as definitive historical fact.

Fujian is one of China’s most important regions for oolong production. Distinct styles of oolong have developed in different parts of the province, ranging from lighter, more aromatic teas to darker, more heavily roasted styles.

One of the defining characteristics of oolong production is partial oxidation. During processing, oxidation of the tea leaves is stopped at the desired stage by applying heat, after which the tea is shaped and dried. Some oolongs are subsequently roasted. The degree of roasting can significantly influence the aroma and overall character of the finished tea.

Preparation

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”justi”]

Use 5–6 g of tea per 100–150 ml of water, preferably in a gaiwan or small porcelain teapot. Pour over with water at 95–100 °C and steep the first infusion for approximately 1 minute.

For subsequent infusions, gradually increase the steeping time. Wu Long can be infused several times, allowing you to observe how its roasted character changes and how the finer aromas unfold from one cup to the next.
