Description
Moroccan mint is an essential, if not crucial, ingredient of Tuareg tea. It makes for an excellent afternoon or evening tea even when consumed on its own. It is widely praised for its calming effects on the stomach. In contrast to peppermint, it has a gentler and sweeter taste. Moroccan mint is most commonly used for culinary purposes. Because of its milder and less overbearing taste, it has become more popular than peppermint. Advocates of this plant like to focus particularly in on its extraordinary scent. The herb gives off a revitalising, cool, and slightly sweet aroma. The plant is prized for its medicinal properties in addition to its pleasant flavour and fragrance. It contains anti-inflammatory properties, improves blood circulation, and enhances cognitive function. It provides a mild pain-relief and enhances the metabolism and intestines.
Mint tea is a crucial component of Moroccan culture. Wherever you go in Morocco, cafés are filled with men drinking either coffee or mint tea. Whilst the majority of men in our culture don’t hesitate to settle into a bar with a large pint of beer, many Moroccan men opt for tea instead. It might have crossed your mind that drinking hot tea in a place with long summers filled with sweltering temperatures doesn’t make much sense. The reason behind this is that hot tea raises body temperature, fooling the thermoreceptors in the body. As a result, perspiration begins, and sweating helps with cooling down the body.

Preparation
To prepare the tea, use tender, purified water – preferably preheated – at a temperature of 90 – 95 °C. Then add two heaping teaspoons (around 8 – 9 grams) of tea into a medium-sized teapot with a capacity of 4 – 600ml. Steep the beverage for 4 – 5 minutes, then pour again for a longer duration.
When it comes to drinking Moroccan mint tea, there is a small ceremony associated with it. If you order Moroccan mint tea someplace, you will be brought some brewed green tea in a teapot. At that point, you have to pour a portion of the green tea into your teacup and then add fresh mint leaves and sugar to the teapot. Seeing as Moroccans like their tea exceedingly sweet, do not be caught off guard if they bring you a sugar cube the size of a brick. After adding the mint leaves and sugar into the teapot, it’s customary you pour the tea in the teacup back into the teapot.
